“We have a world of women who have been silenced, abused, violated, ignored, despised and objectified long enough.” – Rev. Amy Gopp
In Cleveland, a woman might wonder if she needs to say something about her abuser. Or perhaps it’s Seattle, where a pastor wonders what to say when she sees cuts and bruises on one of her parishioners. Or maybe it’s a student in a small Texas town, questioning whether the discomfort and violation she feels from the night before is warranted.
Short of being present to physically stop a fist, an assault or a weapon, a voice is a powerful witness against sexual and gender-based violence. Faith communities have a responsibility to stand with those who suffer abuse in seeking justice.
WeWillSpeakOut.US motivates and empowers faith communities to speak out against SGBV. It is a movement of diverse faith communities from across the U.S. joining together for action and advocacy to end the silence around sexual and gender-based violence. Our mission is to work at local, national and global levels to raise awareness, offer care for survivors, to encourage law enforcement and change our culture of tolerance and inaction.
With your help, we can continue to grow this in the next year.
