This Thursday, WeWillSpeakOut.US will bring the conversation of sexual- and gender-based violence (SGBV) to “The Summit: World Change through Faith and Justice.” Hosted by Sojourners, a national Christian organization committed to “faith in action,” The Summit will serve as a gathering point for 350 global leaders engaged in critical work at the intersection of social justice and faith to establish connections, exchange ideas, and further our collective goals.

During two events, listed below, WeWillSpeakOut.US will introduce our coalition’s work in tackling SGBV and discuss ways that faith leaders and congregations can empower, educate, and equip themselves to more effectively address these issues within their communities.

We Will Speak Out: Faith-Filled Action to End Sexual and Domestic Violence (Salon)

2:45 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. Thursday June 18  at Catholic University, McGivney 009

This Salon discussion, facilitated by WeWillSpeakOut.US steering committee co-chairs Rev. Amy Gopp formerly of Church World Service and Kirsten Laursen Muth of Episcopal Relief & Development, will be an opportunity for us to share our mission and upcoming coalition goals with attendees while asking for their feedback on future developments.

We are expecting a lively discussion around what we, and other faith-based groups, can be doing to better address sexual and gender-based violence at the local, national, and global levels.

A Holy Alliance: Women and Men Against Gender-Based Violence (Summit Session)

5:45 p.m. – 7:45 p.m. Thursday June 18  at Catholic University,  Pryzbyla Great Room

The conversation on faith communities and SGBV will continue with Rev. Amy Gopp as she moderates a larger Summit Session addressing the spiritual, theological and moral implications of global gender-based violence. Seeking to create “A Holy Alliance,” this discussion will illuminate how leaders can engage faith to advocate for gender justice and eliminate SGBV in our communities.

If you can’t be in attendance, you can engage in the conversation online through twitter hashtag #FaithvsSGBV, which we will be using to live-tweet the second event. Sojourners will also be live-streaming the second event, “A Holy Alliance,” at – so don’t forget to check out the session!
